Our Personal Experience with Wallpaper - Rainbow Paint and Decorating

Those of you who have visited one of our stores know that James takes customer service very seriously. He is very knowledgable, and is committed to doing business with integrity. The Pace family commitment to quality has guided the types of products that we carry for decades.

If you are like us, you have had experiences with wallpaper in the past that would make you question why we would proudly feature this product. James’ personal experience with wallpaper is a great illustration of why wallpaper is making a huge comeback.

The Pace Family’s first Home

When the James and Emily got married, they found a beautiful little starter home in Homewood. The Pace’s loved almost everything about this house except for the wallpaper. It was in bad condition and in desperate need of some TLC. Ultimately, they decided to remove it, and that was such a painful process that James swore he would never have wallpaper again. The paper peeled in all the places where they wanted it to stick, and it stuck in all the places where they tried to get it off of the wall.

The Pace Family Grows

As the Pace family grew, they needed more space. After shopping around, they found the perfect home near the Rainbow Paint and Decorating store in Vestavia. They were happy to find a spot with a short commute, great schools, great community, and to top it all off…NO WALLPAPER.

But then a funny thing happened. James knew better than anyone that the wallpaper industry had changed dramatically due to technological advances and market pressure. As James and Emily talked about how they wanted to design their powder room, they decided that they needed an accent wall that would complement their furniture and their color scheme. James kept coming back to one of the new wallpaper designs that would complement their style perfectly. But why would he put wallpaper in his house after his previous experience?

Wallpaper in 2015

The wallpaper that is available in 2015 is dramatically different from the wallpaper that you saw in your grandmother’s house. Technological and design advances have transformed this industry.

Wallpaper is now available in higher quality fabrics that allow for seamless installation.
Modern wallpaper doesn’t peel at the corners and edges if it is properly installed.
Installation is much easier than it used to be. The surface needs to be properly prepared, and most of our clients still select professional installation, but you no longer have to have a PhD in wallpaper to install it correctly.
Wallpaper removal is dramatically easier. Good paper, hung correctly, comes off easily.
The design options are endless. You can select floral prints with tiny roses if you want to, but Rainbow Paint has hundreds of modern designs that perfectly with modern design trends.

The bottom line is that wallpaper in 2015 is not the same thing as it was even 13 years ago when James and Emily got married.

The Results

The Pace’s selected a wallpaper from Thibaut, and it is the perfect complement to their decor. When you see it, you won’t even realize that it is wallpaper if you are only familiar with your grandmother’s old kitchen design. The wallpaper looked fantastic when it was installed, and it looks perfect 2 years later even in a house full of kids. Thibaut also makes fabrics that match their wallpapers, so James and Emily had a chair in their bedroom covered with matching fabric, which tied the rooms together perfectly.

So would James recommend wallpaper to his customers? Definitely. Rainbow Paint and Decorating doesn’t carry products that they don’t believe in, and wallpaper is one of our products that we are proudest of.
