Paint Types and Resources
-
What are common types of interior paint?
Flat/Matte: This type provides the most coverage and requires fewer coats to cover imperfections. A downside is that it is the least durable finish and cannot be cleaned with household cleaners. It’s ideal for low-traffic areas or surfaces that aren’t frequently touched, like ceilings.
Eggshell: Eggshell is a popular finish. It’s slightly more lustrous flat, and a bit more durable. Consider this finish for low to medium-traffic areas, like halls and entryways.
Satin: This is the most common interior finish. It delivers a velvety sheen and is easier to care for than flat or eggshell finishes. It’s a great choice for high-traffic rooms like kitchens and playrooms. A caveat is that this finish is more likely to reveal brush strokes which could make future touch-ups difficult.
Semi-Gloss: This finish is shiny and reflective. It is very durable but will show imperfections more than flat finishes. It’s a solid choice for trim. High-Gloss: This is the shiniest finish. It’s the most durable and washable. You can clean this finish daily if necessary, making it good for doors or cabinets. The prep work for this finish is important as it will show all imperfections if applied incorrectly.
